SEATTLE – The Oregon State track & field team continued its strong start to the season at the UW Invite this weekend, notching 12 all-time marks along with two school records.
Â
"Huge weekend for us," began head coach Louie Quintana. "We had a lot of rewriting of the record book."
Â
Greta Van Calcar ran a school-record time in the 5,000 meters on Friday night. Van Calcar ran a blistering 16:46.75 taking 11th place overall, but surpassing the previous top time in OSU history by more than six seconds.
Â
The previous holder of the school record in the 3,000 meters was senior Juliana Mount, and it was Mount who broke that record again today. Mount's previous record time of 9:33.62 was crushed by more than 10 seconds, 9:23.36.
Â
The Beavers had a strong showing in the event placing two inside the top 10, and five inside of the top 20. All of the entrants today recorded all-time finishes.
"Keely McLaughlin was great this weekend in the weight throw and shot put," said Quintana. "Coach Dumble's group keeps getting better and better."
Â
McLaughlin recorded a pair of top-three finishes in her two events. She placed second overall in the weight throw and a mark of 53-feet, 7.5-inches; the No. 2 all-time mark in OSU history. In the shot put, McLaughlin threw 45-feet, 6.25-inches for third place.
Â
"We are starting to really emerge in the jumps and sprints too," said Quintana. "We have a young group that is starting to fire on all cylinders."
Â
One of those newcomers finding success is Lauren Miller. Miller won her heat in the 200 meters, placing eighth overall, with a time of 25.14-seconds. In the 60 meters, Miller took third in her heat with a time of 7.98-seconds.
Â
We are looking forward to getting our sprints, jumps and throws to New Mexico in a couple weeks, and the distance and pole vault crew back to UW."
Â
Up Next
The Beavers are idle next week, but split duties between the Don Kirby Classic (Feb. 8-9) in New Mexico, and the Husky Classic (Feb. 8-9) in Seattle.
