Toner, Marshall Tally Double Doubles
September 09, 2016 | Women's Volleyball
For Toner, it was her third double double of the season
STOCKTON, Calif. – Lila Toner tallied 11 kills and a season-high 19 digs for her third double double of the season, and Mary-Kate Marshall had her first with 15 kills and 14 digs, but the Oregon State volleyball team was edged in four sets by South Dakota Friday afternoon at the Spanos Center.
Â
Set scores were 25-20, 18-25, 19-25 and 26-28.
Â
Lanesha Reagan was close behind Marshall's team-leading 15 kills with 14 of her own for the Beavers, who nearly completed a comeback in the decisive fourth set. The Coyotes led 15-11 early on, and later 22-18.
Â
But Oregon State (3-3 overall) kept pace with South Dakota (8-1) and was able to score three points – on a kill by Reagan and two USD errors - after the Coyotes had match point to tie the set at 24. The teams traded points through a 26-point tie before South Dakota managed to end the match with a pair of kills.
Â
Toner's third double double is her first away from Gill Coliseum after she finished with her first two at the Ultra Ankle Challenge. The 19 digs are one shy of equaling her career-high of 20 set against Eastern Michigan in 2013, her freshman season.
Â
Marshall, meanwhile, set a season-best with 14 digs, surpassing her previous high of seven against Syracuse. The junior added a service ace and three blocks, finishing in a five-way tie for the team lead. Overall, the Beavers finished with 10 blocks, equaling South Dakota.
Â
Reagan hit double figures in kills for the fifth time in six matches this season, and now has 96 overall. That's four more than her total of 92 a year ago.
Â
Kayla Ellis finished in double figures in digs, setting a season-best with 20. Her previous high was 16, set against Utah State.
Â
The Beavers finished with a .199 hitting percentage compared to .189 for the Coyotes. Oregon State had 77 digs and three service aces while the Coyotes tallied 89 and two, respectively.
Â
Oregon State is set for two matches Saturday. The Beavers open with Northern Colorado at 1 p.m. PT, followed by a 7 p.m. match with host Pacific. Both matches will be played at the Spanos Center, with live stats and video available by visiting osubeavers.com.
