CORVALLIS, Ore. – Coming off a strong display in another undefeated weekend of conference play, Tia Shum has been the West Coast Conference's Defensive Player of the Week, as announced Monday by the league.
Shum tallied 34 digs – 4.25 per set – in the two road wins for Oregon State, helping the Beavers win their fifth match in a row. She opened the weekend with a season-best 18 digs in the win at Santa Clara before tallying up another 16 in the win over San Francisco on Saturday afternoon.
The London, Ont., product led all players in the fourth set of Saturday's match with seven digs, which helped the Beavers secure their 10th win in the last 11 matches played. Offensively, she led Oregon State with five service aces.
This week marks the fourth consecutive week with an Oregon State student-athlete winning a Player of the Week honor and Shum joins two other Beavers – Alana Marrs and Lauren Rumel – in being honored by the league.
Winners of five straight for the second time this season, Shum and the Beavers will be back on the court this week with a home match against Gonzaga on Thursday before visiting San Diego on Saturday.
