High Five! Beavs Secure Fifth-Straight Win on Saturday
October 04, 2025 | Women's Volleyball
SAN FRANCISCO – Facing pressure late from their hosts, the Oregon State volleyball team surged late in the fourth to complete the Saturday afternoon win.
The Beavers (10-4, 4-0 WCC) pushed their winning streak to five with a 25-18, 25-14, 22-25, 25-23 win over the Dons on the road. It marked the fourth-straight West Coast Conference win and 10th win in the last 11 for head coach Lindsey Behonick's squad.
Double-digit kills Lauren Rumel (17) and Alana Marrs (11) helped pace the Beaver offense, with help from a combined 38 kills from Emma Lilo (27) and 11 from Jackie Matias. Tia Shum led the OSU defense with 16 digs, Alondra Paz tallied 15 and five other Beavers put up at least two. Marrs and Nathalie Scholz both had match-leading seven blocks.
Five Marrs kills helped the Beavers start the day, leading to the 25-18 set one win. A 13-dig output – with five from Shum – kept the Dons' offense in check with their match-worst .088 hitting percentage. Both teams traded off multiple runs on the way to a last tie at 11 before the Beavers pulled away. Oregon State stretched their lead to seven on multiple occasions, including at 23-16, 24-17 and the final 25-18 line.
A well-balanced second set gave the Beavers control after a dominant second set. Oregon State used 25 kills and a dozen assists for a .440 attack rate on offense while the defense used 15 digs and six blocks to force a .103 clip on San Francisco. The Beavers broke it open early with a 12-2 lead and never let the Dons pull within fewer than six. After the hosts used a quick 2-0 rally to make it 20-14, the Beavers used a 5-0 sprint – with key kills from Rumel and Annika Hester, as well as a Scholz block – to close it off at 25-14.
Looking for their second consecutive Saturday sweep, the Beavers' bid was snapped by the Dons in the third. San Francisco erased a Beaver lead as big as 15-5 before flipping it to the 25-22 final. Oregon State jumped ahead 21-19 but couldn't hold off one last Don charge before falling 25-22. The Beavers' offense was held to just a .176 clip while USF put up a .382.
Clawing back from being down for the majority of the fourth, the Beavers sealed the four-set win with a two-point margin at 25-23. Trailing by as many as six (14-8), four Rumel kills down the stretch put the Beavers in prime position – back in front – at 23-21. Despite a late response from the hosts, Hester and Lilo had key kills to secure the win – and perfect conference record.
Oregon State will return home for a Thursday night match against Gonzaga. First serve against the Bulldogs is set for 6 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN+.
