
Volleyball's Balanced Attack Dominates Florida Gulf Coast

Corvallis, Ore. - Six different Oregon State volleyball attackers had at least four kills in the Beavers (2-3) sweep of Florida Gulf Coast (2-4) (25-15, 25-11, 25-16) on Friday evening in the team's first match of the Active Ankle Challenge.
"The key is that we were focused from point one to the end of the match," head coach Taras Liskevych said. "Megan[McBride] did a good job setting, and the team did a good job at controlling the flow of the game. It was the best we've sided out all year. Good things can happen when we focus."
Senior Jill Sawatzky (St. Andrews, Manitoba) killed a match-high nine balls, adding a pair of aces and seven digs, while sophomore Camillle Saxton (Balzac, Alberta) had eight kills and four blocks to lead the team.
The Beavers easily cruised to a 25-15 first set victory, outhitting the Eagles 15-9 and sophomore Tami Brown (Eugene, Ore.) racking up a set-high four blocks. Six different hitter recorded kills with Sawatzky and sophomore Tami Brown (Eugene, Ore.) both earned three kills each.
The team continued its control of the match into the second set with a .375 hitting percentage only counting one hitting error of its 24 total. Oregon State capitalized on seven unforced errors to easily win the set by the largest margin yet this season before easily wrapping up the match in the final set.
Caitlin Shawver of Florida Gulf Coast paced the Eagles' offense with nine kills, while libero Holly Youngquist had a match-high 16 digs.
Oregon State continues action in the Active Ankle Challenge on Saturday, Sept. 4, at 12:30 p.m. against UNLV.
