Boise State Classic Awaits Beavers

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State will meet foes old and new this week when they return to play at the Boise State Classic. Action in the Gem State kicks off against Arizona on Thursday, UC San Diego on Thursday and wrapping up on Saturday with Boise State.
Numbers to Know
1 – Rumel was the only WCC student-athlete named to the gold medal-winning Team USA at the U23 NORCECA Pan American Games earlier in August.
1 – Oregon State and UC San Diego will meet for the first time on Friday. The Tritons are in year two at Division I.
2 – Oregon State will play a current Big 12 member for just the second time in the Lindsey Behonick era when they meet Arizona. The first was Oklahoma in the 2023 ASICS Invitational.
3 – The Beavers are one of three WCC schools to have three student-athletes from Hawai'i.
3 – Oregon State is a perfect, combined 3-0 against Arizona and Boise State in the Behonick era. All three of those contests happened in 2023 – Coach Behonick's first season.
9 – It's been nine seasons since OSU has played in Boise. The Beavers played in the 2017 edition of the Boise State Classic.
BEAVS AND WILDCATS
• OSU will open week two against Arizona.
• It will be the 76th meeting in a series that dates back to the 1980s.
• The Beavers enter Thursday's meeting on a two-match winning streak, both in 2023.
• The last time they met, OSU swept UofA in Tucson (25-22, 25-18, 26-24).
• Outside hitter Lauren Rumel, a Tucson native, transferred to OSU following the 2022 season with the Wildcats.
BEAVS AND TRITONS
• Oregon State will meet UC San Diego for the first time in program history.
• The Tritons are entering their second year as a full-time Division I program.
• UCSD will be the first of two foes for OSU from America's Finest City, joining San Diego.
BEAVS AND BRONCOS
• Oregon State will wrap the weekend against the hosts, Boise State, on Sunday.
• It will be the 13th meeting in a series that OSU holds an 11-1 advantage.
• The last meeting was a sweep for the Beavs back in '23, the 3rd win of the Behonick era.
• On July 1, 2026, Boise State will join OSU in a rebuilt Pac-12.
LAST TIME OUT
• Oregon State couldn't enter the win column in two tries last weekend, falling to Stanford on Saturday before dropping the finale to Long Beach State on Sunday afternoon.
• Maëli Cormier hit at a .400 rate in the LBSU match on 20 swings with 10 kills.
• Alana Marrs paced the Beavs' defense against the Beach with four blocks, in just her second collegiate match.
CONFERENCE HONORS
• Hester and Rumel were honored by the WCC as members of the all-conference preseason team.
• The duo ended '24 on the league's First Team while Rumel earned a spot on the All-Academic Team.
HEADING BACK TO THE PAC
• Oregon State closes its two-year stint as an affiliate member of the WCC in 2025.
• Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, Gonzaga, San Diego State, Texas State and Utah State will join OSU and Washington State in a rebuilt Pac-12 on July 1, 2026.
SHE'S MS. AMERICA
• Before the season started, Rumel was named to the United States' U23 roster for the NORCECA Pan-American Championships and helped lead the team to a gold medal-winning finish.
• She was the only selection on the team from a WCC school.
ISLAND CONNECTION
• Only three WCC programs can claim a league-high three student-athletes from Hawai'i—and Oregon State is one of them. The Beavers' trio highlights the program's ties to talent across the Pacific.
