
Pilots, Cougs Ahead

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Returning to Oregon for the first time in two weeks, the Beaver volleyball team will be back in action with a split week between Portland to close October and open November at home.
 
The Beavers (13-6, 7-2) went 1-1 last week in the LA area and will look to continue winning ways at Portland (Oct. 30) and against longtime foe, Washington State, on November 1.  
 
Numbers to Know
.100: Oregon State set the tone against LMU in the first set, only allowing the Lions a measly .100 clip.
 2: OSU went to five sets for just the second time in 2025 against Pepperdine. By the end of last October, the 2024 team played five sets five times.
3: Alana Marrs has won a WCC-best three Freshman of the Week awards.
4.01: Lauren Rumel's 4.01 kills/set rates second in the league entering the weekend's matches.
8: Oregon State has swept their opponents eight times in 2025, including four in WCC play.
11: Eleven Beavers recorded at least one dig in the second set during the LMU win.
 
Rose City Showdown
• The Beavs and Pilots will meet for the 54th time on Thursday
• Oregon State holds a 45-8 lead in the series and has won the last four as well as five of seven.
• In the Behonick era, the Beavs have lost just one set to the Pilots in the two (official) meetings as WCC foes.
• Despite it not being official, the Beavs defeated the Pilots in an exhibition at the Chiles Center before the 2023 season.
• With a win, the Beavs would improve to 2-0 in Portland this year following a win over Portland State in late September.
 
Clash With The Cougs
• OSU and Washington State will meet Sunday for the only 2025 match, the 110th instance in the series.
• These Pac-12 foes have split each of the four meetings in the last two seasons - the away teams won both in '23 while the home teams won in '24.
• The series dates back to 1968 - the inaugural season for the Beavers.
 
Damming the Competition 
• In WCC play, the Beavers' defense has come to play.
• Through nine matches, the opposition has been held to a measly .172 hitting rate.
• Alana Marrs paces the league with 13 solo blocks.
• A pair of Beavs - Marrs (40 - 2nd) and Nathalie Scholz (37 - 7th) - sit in the top 10 for total blocks.
•Marrs and Scholz sit in the top 10 in blocks/set with 1.21 (2nd) and 1.05 (8th), respectfully.
 
Last Time Out
• The Beavers split their matches last weekend in Southern California with a sweep of LMU after falling in five to Pepperdine.
 
Fewer in Five
• Oregon State played just their second match of the season that went five sets in the setback to Pepperdine.
• In 2024, the Beavers went the distance in eight matches, including six times in WCC play.
• During the first year of the Behonick era ('23), the Beavs played five 11 times, including seven times in a nine-match stretch.
 
Distinguished Beavs
• Alana Marrs, Lauren Rumel and Tia Shum have all been named WCC Players of the Week so far this season.
• Marrs has been named the Freshman of the Week on three instances in addition to being selected as the Defensive POTW.
•No other student-athlete in the WCC has been named a Player of the Week in more instances than Marrs.
 
On Our Way Back to The Pac
• Oregon State closes its two-year stint as an affiliate member of the WCC in 2025.
• Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, Gonzaga, San Diego State, Texas State and Utah State will join OSU and Washington State in a rebuilt Pac-12 on July 1, 2026.
 
She's Ms. America
• Before the season started, Rumel was named to the United States' U23 roster for the NORCECA Pan-American Championships and helped lead the team to a gold medal-winning finish.
• She was the only selection on the team from a WCC school.
 
Island Connection
• Only three WCC programs can claim a league-high three student-athletes from Hawai'i—and Oregon State is one of them. The Beavers' trio highlights the program's ties to talent across the Pacific.
 
Worldwide Beavs
• Oregon State has four international student-athletes, which is among the most in the league.
• International Beavs include Cormier (Canada), Yasemin Narlioglu (Turkey), Scholz (Germany) and Tia Shum (Canada).
