EAST LANSING, Mich. – Arnau Farnos scored twice to lift the Oregon State men's soccer team to a 2-1 road victory over Michigan State Monday afternoon in East Lansing.
Farnos found the net in each half, completing the first brace of his collegiate career. Ellis Spikner recorded an assist in the match, bring his season points tally to a team-high six.
Farnos opened the scoring less than eight minutes into the contest, curling one in from 28 yards out off an Spikner assist. Spikner nearly netted one of his own 10 minutes later, as he forced a save with a header near the penalty spot.
Dante Williams hammered one just over the bar in the 24th minute, as the Beavers looked likely to add a second marker. Oregon State headed to the intermission leading by a goal.
The Spartans leveled the score early in the second half, as Mohamed Saad slotted one home in the 47th minute. Farnos answered in the 68th minute to put the Beavers back in front.
Enzo Newman came close to doubling the advantage late on, but his left-footed effort curled just outside the post. Nicklas Lund came up with a game-saving play in the final five minutes, clearing a ball off the line as it was headed into the Beaver net.
Overall, Oregon State took 12 shot in the match, four of which were on goal. Freshman John Nicolson earned his first collegiate win in net.
The Beavers will return to Lorenz Field on Sunday to take on UC Davis.
