September 12, 2025 | Men's Soccer
SAN DIEGO – Arnau Farnos scored a brilliant free kick to lift the Oregon State men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over San Diego State Friday evening in San Diego, Calif.
Farnos' tally came in the 51st minute, a curling effort into the top corner from 21 yards out. The goal was the midfielder's fourth of the season, and helped the Beavers move to 4-2-0 on the season.
The Beavers created the majority of the scoring chances throughout the match, out-shooting the Aztecs 18-7. OSU took four corner kicks, compared to zero for SDSU.
The two sides battled back-and-forth early on, with Oregon State taking the only two shots attempted in the first 20 minutes of action. The Beavers nearly found a breakthrough in the 29th minute, as a flurry of shots in the box were stymied by the Aztec defense, including a pair from Paul Fecteau. Oregon State put the ball in the SDSU net in the 30th, but the strike was chalked off for offside.
The Beavers created the bulk of the scoring chances in the first half, and led the shot count 8-3 at the break but headed to the intermission deadlocked at zero.
Oregon State opened the scoring early in the second frame, as Farnos curled a free kick into the upper corner from 21 yards out in the 51st minute. The Beavers nearly added a second less than 10 minutes later, as a corner kick led to multiple opportunities in the SDSU penalty area.
OSU continued to create scoring chances in the latter phases of the match, as it controlled the contest to claim the victory.
John Nicolson was called into action for one save in the Oregon State net, as he held his second clean sheet of the year.
The Beavers will be off until Sept. 24 when they head to the Bay Area to take on Stanford.
