CORVALLIS, Ore. – Sergi Solans netted a hat trick, as the Oregon State men's soccer team took down LMU 5-1 in an impressive performance Wednesday evening at Paul Lorenz Field.

Solans' hat trick was his second three-goal performance of the season, as he became the second player in program history to record two hat-tricks in the same season – joining Rick Kempf who did so in 1990. The forward now sits tied for seventh on the Beavers' single-season goals list, and is even with Timmy Mueller (2014) for the OSU freshman record.

Fabian Straudi continued his hot season, with a goal and an assist in the contest. He now has 11 assists on the year, tying him for third on the OSU season list. The Italian needs two more assists to match Ryan Johnson for the Beaver single-season record.

Ellis Spikner also found the net for the Beavers in the match, while Dante Williams recorded a pair of assists. Jacob Huth tallied an assist, as he returned to action for the first time since suffering an injury on Aug. 30.

The Beavers were on the front foot to start the match, controlling a bulk of the possession leading up to an eighth-minute goal from Straudi, who curled one home from 22 yards out.

Spikner doubled the Beaver advantage in the 20^th minute, slotting one into the goal from 15 yards out off a beautiful setup from Straudi. The Lions were able to settle into the contest in the latter phases of the opening frame, but the Beavers took a two-goal advantage into the break.

Solans netted the Beaver third early in the second half, as Andrew De Gannes and Tomas Bedouret combined off a corner kick to whip a dangerous ball into the box that the freshman headed home. Spikner nearly scored his second in the 61^st minute, but his effort was saved off the post.

Solans tacked on his second in the 74^th minute, converting from a tight angle after Williams dribbled through a host of LMU defenders to set the Spaniard up. The Lions pulled one back a few minutes later, but Solans scored his third with less than a minute remaining to wrap up the contest.

Overall Oregon State out-shot LMU 18-11 in the match.

Oregon State will play its second of a three-game homestand Sunday when San Francisco visits Lorenz Field.
