
Beavers Fall in Tempe

TEMPE, Ariz. – The Oregon State women's soccer team dropped its Pac-12-opener 2-0 Friday evening in Tempe, Ariz.
The Beavers took eight shots in the match, five of which came from the foot of forward McKenna Martinez.
Martinez created the Beavers' first scoring chance of the match, forcing a save with a shot from 20 yards out in the 20th minute. Arizona State took the lead three minutes later.
Sawyer Service took aim in the 41st minute, but her effort from distance was off frame. The Beavers headed to the break trailing by a goal.
The Beavers opened the second half on the front-foot, creating a scoring chance within the first two minutes of the period that was cleared off the line. Arizona State scored a second in the 58th minute.
Martinez attempted to pull one back in the 64th minute, but her effort was outside the left post. The forward forced a save in the 80th minute, as Oregon State pushed forward in the closing phase of the contest.
Katie Godden put the ball in the net in the 84th minute, but the goal was ruled offside and Arizona State maintained its two-goal advantage. The Sun Devils hung on from there to take the victory.
The Beavers will return to Lorenz Field on Thursday to take on Utah.
