Beavers Draw With Utes
September 28, 2023 | Women's Soccer
CORVALLIS – The Oregon State women's soccer team battled Utah to a 2-2 draw Thursday evening at Lorenz Field.
Carly Carraher and McKenna Martinez both found the net for the Beavers. Martinez' goal moves her into a tie for fifth in program history with 26 in her career. The forward also tallied an assist in the contest to bring her career total to 60 points.
As a team, the Beavers now move to 3-3-4 on the season.
Oregon State nearly took the lead less than three minutes into the match, as Regan Berg fired a shot off the crossbar. Katie Godden headed one wide of the post just minutes later.
The two sides traded punches from there, before Carraher opened the scoring in the 31st minute, cutting the ball back onto her left foot and slotting it past the keeper.
Amaya Bautista took aim on a header in the 44th minute, but the Utah keeper made the save. Oregon State took a 1-0 lead into the intermission.
Martinez was able to create a couple scoring chances in the opening phases of the second half as the Beavers looked to add to their advantage. Utah leveled the score in the 71st minute.
The Utes tacked on another goal in the 81st, as they jumped in front. Martinez answered quickly, converting on a Helena Brown cross to level the score in the 83rd.
Both sides looked to grab a late winner, but the two back lines held firm over the final seven minutes, as the match ended in a stalemate.
Oregon State will be back at Lorenz Field on Sunday, when Colorado comes to town.
