Mitchell, Fetherstonhaugh Head to ABQ for Indoor Nationals

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Two Beavers are set to compete for a national championship this weekend as Kaylee Mitchell and Grace Fetherstonhaugh race in the NCAA Indoor Track & Field National Championships.

New Mexico is hosting the meet in Albuquerque. It begins for the Beavers on Friday at 3 p.m. PT with Mitchell racing in the mile prelims. The mile final is Saturday at 3 p.m. PT, preceding the 3,000 meters final that both Mitchell and Fetherstonhaugh are competing in by an hour.

Anneke Moersdorf highlighted day one of the Ken Shannon Invite by setting the school record in the pentathlon with 4,092 points behind personal best marks in the 60-meter hurdles (7.83), shot put (37-8.75) and 800 meters (2:18.24). Moersdorf smashed two of her previous PRs, shaving four seconds off her 800m time and adding more than two feet to her shot put mark.

A series of PRs highlighted day two. Chelsea Howard was the first Beav to post a new PR with a 7.96 in the 60 meters. The sprint moved Howard to ninth in the OSU Top 10. She previously had been tied for no. 9 with a 7.97. Later in the day, Fetherstonhaugh once again outpaced her previous PR in the mile. The redshirt junior raced to fifth with a 4:34.32, finishing just behind teammate Mitchell. Mitchell neared her school record, set earlier this year, with a 4:33.87. Jillian Brown moved up the OSU Top 10 in the 800 meters, racing to fifth all-time with a 2:12.86. Brown's time inched out Kelsi Schaer's 2:12.89 from 2015.
