
Beavers' Run Ends in Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Oregon State men's soccer team's historic season came to a close Friday evening, as the Beavers fell to No. 2-seed Notre Dame 1-0 at the College Cup in Louisville, Ky.
The Beavers end the year in the semi-final round of the NCAA Tournament, after making the deepest postseason run in program history. OSU booked its spot in the College Cup with wins over Seattle U, Portland, SMU and North Carolina.
As a team, Oregon State out-shot Notre Dame 10-7 in the contest.
Neither side was able to create a clear-cut scoring chance through the opening phase of the match. Fran Cortijo had an opportunity to put the Beavers in front in the 21st, as he forced a save with a shot from a tight angle.
Luis Castillo came up with a big save in the 33rd minute to maintain the deadlock. Logan Farrington took aim in the 34th, forcing a save with a free kick from 24 yards out.
The teams headed to the intermission level at zero.
Notre Dame took the lead early in the second half, scoring in the 51st minute. The Beavers came within inches of evening things up in the 64th, with a flurry of shots from close range one of which was saved off the line by the Irish centerback.
Turner Humphrey placed a header just over the bar with 13 minutes remaining, as Oregon State found itself on the front foot looking for an equalizer. The Beavers continued to press forward down the stretch, but could not level the score, as the Irish took the victory.
Oregon State ends the season with a record of 11-6-5
