Orange and Black Regatta This Weekend
November 14, 2019 | Women's Rowing
The black team looks to even the score against team orange in this year's Orange and Black Regatta set for 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 16th at the Oregon State Rowing Center.
Â
The inter-squad scrimmage is a public event that brings alumni, parents, community members and current athletes together for a day of all things Beaver Rowing. This is the first race experience for newly named walk on athletes, and the last race opportunity for fall season.Â
Â
The morning begins with a welcome gathering and registration as well as a Beaver Gear Garage Sale at 9:00 a.m. At 10:00 a.m. the rowers will head to the water with the inter-squad competition followed by the Alumni Row. The inter-squad will consist of five 8's on both Orange and Black, one on each side being a mixed boat with the top rowers from each squad. There will be a two-mile timed head race, followed by a 1000-meter side by side race in a best of three format.
"We should see some spirited racing across the men's and women's teams this weekend," head women's rowing coach Kate Maxim said. "We're looking forward to catching up with alumni, family and friends. We have much to be grateful for and I know the team thrives on the generous support we receive."Â
"Always a great event to end the fall season on a fun note," Beaver men's rowing head coach Gabe Winkler said. "I love seeing the alumni come back, and it's a perfect opportunity to start the tailgating for the big football game that afternoon. Every year (the title) is up for grabs, and the teams are really going at it to try and get bragging rights for a year."
Â
At 11:30 the event will switch back to land for an award ceremony, a barbeque, and a boat dedication ceremony with a tailgate for the football game that afternoon to follow. Anyone wishing to partake in the barbeque is encouraged to register here.
