Tchilao Scores, Beavers Fall to No. 15 Portland
September 21, 2018 | Men's Soccer
PORTLAND, Ore. – Senior Don Tchilao scored his fourth goal of the season, but the Oregon State men's soccer team fell to No. 15 Portland Friday evening in Portland, Ore.
Â
The defeat snaps the Beavers' six-match unbeaten streak, as the team falls for the first time since dropping its season-opener.
Â
Tchilao's penalty kick goal leveled the score at one in the 67th minute, but the Pilots battled back to take the win with an 80th-minute tally.
Â
The Beavers created an early chance less than two minutes into the match, when Joel Walker's cross found the head of Gloire Amanda. Amanda returned the favor in the 11th minute, putting Walker in on goal with a through-ball, but the Pilot keeper came up with a nice save.
Â
Oregon State continued to look dangerous in the first half hour, as the Beavers' front three persistently got in behind the Portland back line. Walker nearly found Tchilao at the back post in the 22nd minute, but the senior turned his shot wide of goal.
Â
Amanda found himself with some space at the top of the box in the 35th, but his left-footed attempt skidded just outside the post, as the teams headed to the break scoreless.
Â
The Beavers picked up right where they left off to start the second period, as Amanda and Eric Diaz both took shots in the opening minutes of the half.
Â
Portland took the lead in the 60th minute, converting on a loose ball in the box. Oregon State answered seven minutes later, as Tchilao slotted home his third penalty kick of the season. The Pilots found the net again in the 80th to retake the advantage.
Â
The Beavers pressed forward from there in search of an equalizer, but the Portland defense held firm to finish the match.
Â
Anthony Atilola returned to the field for Oregon State in the contest, coming on as a substitute after missing the prior four matches due to injury.
Â
The Beavers will open Pac-12 play on Saturday, as No. 16 Washington visits Lorenz Field.
