Beavers’ Race at UW Moved to Friday
April 05, 2018 | Men's Rowing
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The 20th-ranked Oregon State men's rowing team travels north on the I-5 corridor to face No. 3 Washington on the Montlake Cut Friday afternoon. The races, originally scheduled for Saturday morning, were re-scheduled due to the forecast of bad weather.
The Beavers, who haven't raced since March 4 when they met Dartmouth and Santa Clara at the Lake Las Vegas Invitational, will have four crews in action against the Huskies. The Varsity 4+ opens the day's racing beginning at 4 p.m. UW will then race head-to-head against Stanford, before taking on three OSU crews in the Varsity 8, Junior Varsity 8 and Third Varsity 8.
"This will be a tough test for our guys," associate head coach Dameon Engblom, who will fill in this week for head coach Gabe Winkler, whose wife gave birth to their first baby, Levi, last Saturday, said. "We will race against Stanford next week at Redwood Shores and we would really like to post better times and margins."
Racing will take place on the Montlake Cut. The 2,000-meter sprint begins from a floating start parallel to the 520 Bridge in Lake Washington and runs east to west through the Montlake Cut and to the finish line near the mouth of Portage Bay in Lake Union.
RACE SCHEDULE
4:00 p.m. – V4+
5:30 p.m. – 3V8/F8
5:45 p.m. – 2V8
6:00 p.m. – V8
