Men's Crew to Split Up to Race at Two Regattas

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State men's rowing team divides this weekend sending three eight-man boats to Redwood Shores, Calif., and two boats to Lowell, Ore.
"This is the most important weekend of the year for our regular season schedule," said head coach Gabe Winkler. "We will be racing three very high level teams and the guys are really excited. This is a fun-formatted race with having three duals."
The Beavers will be sending a Varsity 8, Second Varsity 8 and Third Varsity 8 to face off against Stanford, Friday evening, Santa Clara, Saturday morning and Wisconsin, Saturday evening. In addition, OSU will be racing a lone boat in both the Varsity 4 and Varsity 8 at Dexter Reservoir.
SCHEDULE: The Beavers will race two days in Redwood Shores, Calif., starting Friday.

What has been your favorite moment as an OSU athlete?
My favorite moment as an OSU athlete has been placing third in the men's championship 4+ at the Head of the Charles regatta, during the Fall of my junior year.
If you had a pump-up song, what would it be?
If I had a pump up song it would be "Before I Forget" by Slipknot.
If you could play a different college sport at Oregon State, what would it be and why?
If I could play a different college sport at Oregon State I would definitely wrestle because I wrestled in high school and I love the sport.
What do you like best about Corvallis?
I like the small town feel of Corvallis. My hometown is very rural and Corvallis is the perfect mix of big college town and small community.
How would you describe the coaching staff?
Fired up.
Where are you most excited to race at?
I am most excited to race at the IRA national championships in Sacramento. I think that Oregon State is in a position to perform better than we have in recent memory this year, and I look forward to being a part of the team that surpasses the expectations.
What is your major? Why did you choose your major?
My major is Environmental Engineering. I chose Environmental Engineering as my major because it is the perfect sweet spot between my strengths as a student, which are in math and the sciences, and the passion that I have for the environment.
What would be your favorite vacation destination?
My favorite vacation destination would be whitewater rafting in Idaho or Utah in the late summer.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
In 10 years, I see myself working for a water municipality somewhere on the west coast doing work on water quality control.
If you were a superhero what super power would you want? Why?
If I were a superhero I would want to have the ability to heal my body from injuries. I think this would be a very cool ability to have and it would allow me to embark on more ambitious outdoor adventures like extreme rock climbing etc.
