Men’s Crew Set to Open Season at Las Vegas
March 02, 2017 | Men's Rowing
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State men's rowing team gets the 2017 season underway in an historic way Saturday morning. The Beavers will face UC Santa Barbara at the first annual Lake Las Vegas Collegiate Invitational, the first ever regatta in the Las Vegas area.
Three Oregon State crews will cruise the shores of Lake Las Vegas including the Varsity 8, Junior Varsity 8 and Third Varsity 8 when they take on the Gauchos. The regatta is hosted by the Lake Las Vegas Rowing Club and the Lake Las Vegas Master Association.
"I'm excited for this event, it should be a good time," head coach Gabe Winkler said. "It's good to get this early racing in. It gives us a chance to knock off the dust and afterward allows us time to regroup and train for the rest of the season."
COURSE: The 2,000-meter course takes place on the man-made lake in Henderson, Nev.
RACE TIMES: Oregon State's 3V8 will compete in the first race of the morning, beginning at 9 a.m. The JV8 is set to start at 9:30 a.m., followed by OSU's top crew, the V8, at 10 a.m.
