Oregon State Suffers Loss at Utah
October 06, 2016 | Women's Soccer
SALT LAKE CITY – The Oregon State women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss from the foot of Utah tonight at Ute Field.
Â
The Utes outshot the Beavers, 14-7 in the match and held a 3-2 advantage in the corner game. Senior goalkeeper, Bella Geist saw eight Utah shots on frame and recorded seven saves. Oregon State put two of its seven opportunities in between the pipes, but could not find the back of the net, as Utah goalkeeper July Mathias recorded her third shutout of the season.
Â
Utah started the match, grabbing an early advantage with a goal at 14:38 from Hailey Skolmoski, who found the top-left corner for her ninth goal of the season. Skolmoski leads the Utes and the Pac-12 in goals so far this season.
Â
The Beavers tallied a pair of headers later in the period, first by Helene Haavik and another by Allison Pantuso, but were saved.
Â
Following the break, Nicole Nickerson looked to level the score with a pair of shots, but both were off the mark. Utah kept the offensive pressure on Oregon State down the stretch as it outshot OSU, 8-3 in the final period.
Â
Oregon State will look to rebound and record its first league win, as it heads to Colorado for a Sunday match starting at 12 p.m.
