FULLERTON, Calif. - Camille Saxton led the Oregon State volleyball team with 22 kills as the Beavers' won their seventh consecutive match with a four-set win (24-26, 25-20, 25-19, 25-19) over San Diego State at the Fullerton Classic on Saturday.
The seven-match win streak is the longest in head coach Taras Liskevych's eight-year tenure at Oregon State and is the program's longest since the 1996 team began the year with 11 consecutive victories. OSU improved to 9-2 with Saturday's victory while San Diego State dropped to 7-4.
"This was another very good blocking display for us," head coach Taras Liskevych said. "We had 16 blocks. Camille had 22 kills; she and Arica (Nassar) played very well today."
Saxton had 22 kills in 56 attempts, amassing a .286 hitting percentage. Her 22-kill performance is just one shy of tying a career-high of 23 set last weekend against Penn State.
The Beavers ended the match with 16 kills, a key that Liskevych alluded to above. Haley Clarke followed up a 10-block performance Friday with five against the Aztecs, while Nassar led the Beavers with 10, including three solo.
Megan McBride had five blocks as well and chipped in with 42 assists, giving her 82 on the weekend.
Oregon State hit .201 for the match while holding San Diego State to a .123 clip. Summer Nash led the Aztecs with 14 kills.
San Diego State took the first set, 26-24, on the strength of a .282 hitting percentage. The Beavers managed a .190 clip, led by Saxton's four kills. SDSU's Nash had seven of her 14 kills during the frame.
From that point on, however, it was all Oregon State as the Beavers claimed the next three sets.
The lead changed hands just three times in set two, which Oregon State won, 25-20. Saxton had six kills during the set while Nassar chipped in with four.
The Beavers never trailed in the third set, winning 25-19. OSU only hit .083 during the set but San Diego State was in a negative percentage at -.026. Oregon State tallied three blocks during the frame and managed 19 digs to just 12 for the Aztecs. Becky Defoe had five of her team-leading 22 digs during the set.
OSU pulled out the win with a 25-19 win in the fourth set after posting a .275 hitting percentage. Saxton had an impressive nine kills during the set, finishing with a .411 hitting percentage. Oregon State trailed just once during the fourth set.
