Beavs Stay Balanced in Saturday Sweep
September 27, 2025 | Women's Volleyball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Finishing September with the month's fifth sweep, the Oregon State volleyball team dispatched Pacific on Saturday afternoon inside Gill Coliseum.
The Beavers (8-4, 2-0 WCC) once again used a suffocating defense to limit the opponent in a decisive 25-12, 25-12, 25-20 sweep to close the first week of league play. For the match, Pacific was held to a .052 clip for the match and even kept to a .000 in the second frame.
Oregon State did not trail in the match until the first point of the third set.
Ten Beavers recorded at least one dig – and six with at least five – to hold the Tigers to just 37.0 total points. Yasemin Narlioglu led all student-athletes – on both teams – with nine digs. Alana Marrs, the two-time defending league freshman of the week, again led the Beavers in blocks with her three. Bridget Gould led the attack with a career-high 10 kills with Marrs following behind with eight. Emma Lilo (18) and Jackie Matias (12) combined for 30 of the Beavers' 32 assists to keep pressuring Pacific.
Five kills from Gould in the first set were what the Beavers needed to spark a strong start. Both sides of the ball got off on the right foot as the offense hit at a .481 clip and the defense dug out 13 balls to keep the visitors to a measly .067 on the way to the 13-point set win. Oregon State took seven of the set's first 10 points to strike first and didn't look back – the Beaver ballooned to as many as 14 (24-10) before Pacific trimmed it to 12 before ultimately losing at 13.
Continuing on, the Beavers quickly put Pacific on the brink following another 25-12 set win in the second. Shum's four-dig set helped the Tigers be held to a .000 clip while the attack piled on 11 kills – including four more from Gould on just five swings – to string a .348 mark for themselves. Holding just a small, three-point lead at 9-6, the Beavs broke the set open with a 12-3 (including a 9-0) run to dominate the set.
With the two-set advantage, Oregon State still had some unfinished business to take care of.
Faced with the day's first deficit – a 4-0 hole to start the set – the Beavers used three runs of at least 3-0 (once at four) to eventually pull away for the 25-20 set, and match win. Veteran offensive leadership was key from four Lauren Rumel kills to push the Beavers over the edge while Annika Hester and Marrs each put up two as well.
Following the 2-0 start to West Coast Conference play, Oregon State will leave the Beaver State for the first time in nearly a month to play Santa Clara on the road. First serve against the Broncos is set for 6 p.m. on Thursday, October 2nd.
