TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - Jamar Williams intercepted two passes and Jordan Hill recovered two fumbles in 22nd-ranked Arizona State's 27-14 victory over mistake-prone Oregon State on Saturday night, the Pac-10 opener for both teams.
The Sun Devils' Emmanuel Franklin saved an Oregon State touchdown by knocking the ball loose from Oregon State's Joe Newton, then recovering the ball for a touchback - a play that turned the game around late in the first half.
Hakim Hill, playing with a broken bone in his right forearm, scored on a 3-yard run and Andrew Walter threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Zach Miller for the Sun Devils (4-0), off to their best start since going 11-0 in the 1996 regular season.
Terry Richardson scored on a 12-yard reverse to help send Oregon State (1-3) to its 16th consecutive at Arizona State. Jesse Ainsworth kicked field goals of 33 and 45 yards for the Sun Devils.
Two of the Pac-10's top passers had a rough night. Walter was 16-for-40 for 124 yards but was not intercepted. Oregon State's Derek Anderson was 29-for-53 for 384 yards but was intercepted twice. He also fumbled the ball away twice, accounting for four of the Beavers' five turnovers.

Mike Hass caught 14 passes for 172 yards for Oregon State, which had minus-14 yards rushing.
The Sun Devils scored 10 points in a 26-second span to go up 17-7 at the break.
With the game tied at 7-7, on third-and-two from the Arizona State 32, Anderson threw to Newton, who rambled free down the sideline. But just before Newton crossed the goal line, Franklin knocked the ball loose from behind, then jumped on the ball in the end zone.
Oregon State drew a personal foul on the play, and Arizona State drove from its 35 to the Beavers' 16, where Ainsworth's 33-yard field goal put the Sbgun Devils up 10-7 with 2:01 left in the half.
After the kickoff, Anderson botched a handoff to Dwight Wright, and Jordan Hill recovered at the Beavers' 12. On the next play, Richardson scored on a reverse and it was 17-7 with 1:35 to go in the half.
The Sun Devils were without starting running back Loren Wade, who has been suspended from the team indefinitely for a violation of team rules.
Anderson was 4-for-4 as the Beavers scored on their first possession, capped by his 34-yard TD pass to Hass. Arizona scored the next 27 points.
Williams returned his first interception 20 yards to the Oregon State 1. But the Beavers held, then Brandon Browner blocked Ainsworth's 20-yard field attempt with 5:49 left in the quarter
The Sun Devils tied it at 7-7 when Walter scrambled 16 yards to the Arizona State 3, then Hakim Hill scored from there with 56 seconds left in the first quarter - the Sun Devils' first rushing touchdown of the season.
Oregon State drove into Arizona State territory twice in the fourth quarter but turned it over both times. Anderson was hit as he threw and Williams intercepted. Later, he fumbled a snap and Jordan Hill recovered.
