CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) - Jason Heide scored 18 points to lead Oregon State to a 62-46 victory over South Carolina State on Saturday.
Oregon State (6-5), ranked fifth nationally in scoring defense, held South Carolina State (4-6) to fewer than 50 points for only the second time this season. It was the fifth time the Beavers have held an opponent to 50 points or less.
The Beavers are coming back from a streak of five straight losses that ended Dec. 19 with a 58-50 victory over Eastern Washington
The Beavers struggled with shooting, making less than 43 percent from the field for the sixth consecutive game. The Beavers made 22 of 27 free throws, with Heide and Brian Jackson getting 19 attempts.
Heide made 6 of 9 shots, hit 6 of 7 free throws and grabbed six rebounds, while Jackson finished with 13 points.
Greg Gray scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Bulldogs, and Vincent Whitt added 13 points and eight rebounds.
Oregon State fell behind early, but an 18-6 run midway through the first half, capped by seven straight points from Heide, gave the Beavers to a 23-12 lead.
