D'Arpino sets 200, 400 marks at Bulldog Invite

CLOVIS, Calif. – Redshirt sophomore Venessa D'Arpino set her third school record and broke her existing mark for the fourth time this season on Saturday, pacing the Oregon State track & field team at the Fresno State Bulldog Invitational at Veterans Memorial Stadium in neighboring Clovis.
D'Arpino took first in the 400 in 54.14 to break the longest-standing running record in program history. Kathy Weston set the old standard of 54.36 on May 12, 1979, nearly 38 years ago. D'Arpino's former PR was 54.73, set on March 25 at the Willamette Invitational.
She then ran 23.63 in the 200 And placed third to shatter the school record for the fourth meet in a row. She has posted school-record times od 23.83, 23.82, 23.81 and Saturday's 23.64 in her last four attempts.
D'Arpino now holds the school outdoor records in the 100 (11.70), 200 (23.63) and 400 (54.14). She also holds the school records in the indoor 60 (7.55) and 400 (55.60); is No. 2 all-time to twin sister Kerissa D'Arpino in the indoor 200 (24.67), and ran a leg on the school-record outdoor 400 relay (46.01) and indoor 1600 relay (3:49.98) teams.
Senior Rsachel Picknell took third in a discus at 164-9, a PR by more than five feet and the No. 2 all-time mark. Freshman Lindsay McShane was sixth in 154-9, a PR by nearly 14 feet and the No. 5 all-time mark.
Senior Devin Collins won the 400 hurdles (1:01.63) and placed fifth in the 100 hurdles (14.19). Redshirt sophomore Gwyneth McMorris (2:14.73) and junior Kala Kopecek (2:16.11) went 4-5 in the 800.
OSU also went 3-4-5-6-9 in the javelin, with top-10 all-time marks by McKenzie Allison (132-9, #8) and Saskia McNairy (130-1, #9). McNairy took eighth in the long jump (18-7.25), the No. 8 all-time mark and a PR by two inches.
Picknell was seventh (169-10) and freshmen  McShane (162-9) and Sydney Guthrie-Baker (141-6) were ninth and 13th, respectively in the hammer. All posted season PRs; Picknell improved her 2017 best by more than nine feet and McShane and Guthrie set new No. 3 and No. 4 all-time marks.
The Beavers set two school records and had 10 all-time top-10 performances on Saturday. They have set four current school records (100, 200, 400, javelin) and have posted 42 all-time top-10 times or marks this season.
Also on Saturday, senior Helen Ann Haun tied her school pole vault record by clearing 12-10 at the Clackamas Community College Cougar Open at Canby High School. Senior Annie Sidor, competing unattached, took second at 12-3. Junior Destiny Dawson, also competing unattached, won the javelin in 144-11.
Next up for the Beavers is the annual High Performance Meet, April 28-29 at the Whyte Track & Field Center. It starts on Friday (April 28) with the Distance Carnival, pole vault and hammer. The remaining events are scheduled for April 29.
Friday's hammer will be held at Western Oregon. The inclement spring weather has postponed the completion of the new hammer throw area at the Whyte complex.
