Big Plays Highlight Saturday's Scrimmage
March 11, 2017 | Football
Quarterbacks Jake Luton and Darell Garretson paced an offensive effort of seven touchdowns Saturday in the final scrimmage before the annual Spring Game next week at Reser Stadium.
Â
Luton, the junior college transfer, completed 10 of 14 passes for 151 yards. The Washington native threw a pair of touchdown tosses, a 48-yard strike to freshman receiver Isaiah Hodgins and a 45-yard hookup to sophomore Andre Bodden. Garretson, a six-game starter before suffering a season ending injury last year, had touchdown passes to sophomore wide receiver Trevon Bradford for eight yards and senior running back Jaylynn Bailey of nine yards to conclude the scrimmage.
Â
"I loved the competitiveness today," Beaver head coach Gary Andersen said. "They (the team) came out prepared to play as close as we can to a real game. It was very physical. I'm proud of the effort today and I'm proud of the way the team prepared. It was a very solid day."
Â
Overall, the Beaver offense generated 497 yards. Sophomore Artavis Pierce led the ground attack with 82 yards, including a 70-yard touchdown run.
Â
The Beaver defense also had a solid effort, highlighted by two interceptions by redshirt freshman Jaydon Grant – the son of former NBA standout Brian Grant.
Â
Oregon State returns to the practice field Tuesday for the final week of the 15-day practice session. Season tickets for a team that returns 55 lettermen are available for the six-game 2017 home season at BeaverTickets.com
