Matt Lisle is entering his second year with the Oregon State softball program, joining the staff in the summer of 2023.
In his first season with the Beavers, Oregon State had six hitters with an OPS at .678 or better with the team mark at .633 and multiple games with at least double-digit hits as a team.Â
Lisle comes to Corvallis with years of experience in collegiate softball and baseball as well as in Major League Baseball. He will work primarily with the Beavers’ hitters and fielders.
Prior to joining Laura Berg's staff, Lisle was tabbed the 2023 Bay Valley Conference Coach of the Year for his work with the baseball team at Los Medanos (Calif.). Under his leadership, the Mustangs won a school-record 33 games and made an appearance in a super regional.
In the 2022 season, Lisle helped guide the University of San Francisco baseball squad to a West Coast Conference tournament appearance that led the league in doubles, extra base hits and home runs.
During the shortened 2020 softball season, Lisle helped lead the Fresno State softball team to quite the turnaround. The Bulldogs’ offense ranked in the top 10 in several categories and led the Mountain West in numerous statistics and helped knock off second-ranked Texas for their first top-five win in a decade. Fresno State saw their RPI increase dramatically from 89 to 12 in a three-year stretch.
Between posts in college athletics, Lisle served as the hitting coordinator for MLB’s Chicago White Sox. On the south side, he was tasked with creating the assessment and evaluation system for all hitters in the organization. He engineered individual hitting plans based on the strengths and weaknesses of each player.
Prior to the White Sox, Lisle was a part of the 2018 NFCA Southeast Region Coaching Staff of the Year as South Carolina’s hitting coach. His Gamecock lineup led the Southeastern Conference with a school-record 65 longballs and led the conference in slugging, doubles, total bases and times hit by pitch.
Ahead of his time in Columbia, S.C., Lisle led the Menlo College softball team to their first winning campaign in 14 years and had four student-athletes earn all-league honors.
No stranger to the Pac-12, Lisle served as a volunteer assistant coach for Oregon in 2013 and helped lead the Ducks to their first league championship.
Lisle’s first position came with Patten University as an assistant before being tabbed to lead the baseball team at Gallaudet, a Division III program.
Lisle holds a bachelor's degree in Organizational Management from Patten University in 2006.
He and his wife, Jessica, are the parents of five children: Alicia, Chappie, Chase, Presley and Crosby.
