
Brandon Eyre Leads Beavers After 36 Holes At WCC Championship

FAIRFIELD, Calif. – Brandon Eyre shot a 5-under 139 over the first two rounds of the West Coast Conference Championship to pace the Oregon State men's golf team on Friday.
Eyre, who finds himself in a tie for 11th place, opened with a 3-under 69 in the first round, and backed that with a 2-under 70 in the second.
He's tops among the Oregon State contingent, which saw the Beavers in sixth place at the par-72, 6,570-yard Green Valley Country Club. OSU is two spots shy of fourth, a key spot as the top four teams after the third round Saturday advance to match play semifinals on Sunday. OSU's 10-under 566 is one shot behind No. 5 San Francisco and nine behind fourth-place St. Mary's.
Eyre had the lone eagle by the Beavers on the day, and he recorded 12 birdies, which is tied for the tournament's lead thus far.
Rylan Johnson was just one shot shy of Eyre, posting back-to-back 2-under 70 rounds. He recorded 10 birdies over the first two rounds and is in 16th.
Following Johnson is Stanley Lin, who matched Eyre with the lowest round of the day. His 3-under 69 came in the second, putting him at a 1-under 143. Lin finished with nine birdies en route to a 23rd-place finish in the first day.
Collin Hodgkinson posted back-to-back 1-over 73 rounds to finish day one with a 2-over 146, and he was followed closely by Bradley Smolinski with a 3-over 147. He capped his day with a 1-under 71 in the second round.
Hodgkinson enters day two tied for 35th while Smolinski is tied for 38th.
