Second Varsity Eights Claim Victories on Saturday
March 08, 2025 | Women's Rowing
SEATTLE, Wash. – Across 10 total races on Saturday, the Beavers claimed victory three times as Oregon State Women's Rowing opened its spring season on Saturday, splitting the squad to compete in two different regattas.
At the Husky Open, hosted by a Washington side that finished last year ranked No. 5 nationally, it was the second varsity eights who claimed the season's first victory, defeating British Columbia with a 14 second margin in a head-to-head matchup.
Further south in Tacoma, Oregon State's 1V8+ came within 1.2 seconds of winning its first race of the year, but was narrowly edged out by Seattle Pacific to finish in second place during the first race of the day.
After a second place finish for the varsity fours, the Beavers finished the PLU invite with a pair of wins, started by the second varsity eights who crossed the finish line 21.1 seconds ahead of Western Washington; soon after, in the second flight, the varsity fours posted a 37.8 second margin of victory.
The Beavers return to action on home waters, hosting Gonzaga and Portland at Dexter Reservoir on March 29.
