Beam Lineup Shines in Competition at No. 12 Auburn
January 24, 2025 | Women's Gymnastics
AUBURN, Ala. – Despite finishing the final rotation ahead of No. 12 Auburn, a late inquiry boosted the Tigers ahead of Oregon State gymnastics on Friday, who finished with a 196.975 at Neville Arena.
The Gym Beavs improved in every single rotation, culminating in beam rotation that saw Oregon State drop a 9.850 and use four separate 9.900-plus routines to finish with a season-high 49.575.
Sophia Esposito led the beam team off with a 9.875, her highest beam score of the season. The sophomore from Melville, N.Y., also competed on vault and floor, with her floor routine earning a 9.850 After Esposito in the beam lineup was Olivia Buckner, who tied a career high thanks to a 9.900. Buckner has competed on the beam in every single meet this season.
In the third spot was Lauren Letzsch, who has been a rock in the heart of the lineup this season. Letzsch, who missed all of 2024, earned a 9.900 for the second consecutive week and now boasts a beam average of 9.87 across four meets this season.
After a Jennifer McMillan 9.850, Sydney Gonzales earned a 9.925 and set the stage for OSU's Jade Carey, who was given a 9.975 to cap a 39.625 all-around performance that featured a 9.850 on vault, 9.900 on bars and 9.900 on floor; for her efforts, Carey won the all-around event title along to go with titles on floor and beam.
Karlie Chavez unleashed her new vault for the second-consecutive week and made some noise, posting the meet's highest score on that event while setting a new career high thanks to a 9.900.
Savannah Miller earned a 9.850 for the second time this season as she led off a floor lineup that saw Sage Thompson and Esposito go back-to-back with a pair of 9.850s in the middle of the rotation, while Kaitlin Garcia, coming off a career-best 9.950 last week, was given a 9.875.
When the competition ended, it appeared as though OSU had won the meet, but an inquiry by the Auburn coaching staff changed the final score after the broadcast on ESPN2 had concluded.
Oregon State returns to action at Gill Coliseum in two weeks, hosting a pair of meets on Feb. 7 and 10. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Beaver Ticket Office at 1-800-GO-BEAVS or visiting the Beaver Tickets website, found here.
