Hulon's 5 Ks Leads Beavs to Sunday Upset
April 07, 2024 | Softball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Behind a strong Logan Hulon performance in the circle, the Oregon State softball team stunned 12th-ranked UCLA on Sunday with a 1-0 score to close the series.
Tossing the game's entirety for the Beavers (16-21, 4-8 Pac-12), Hulon fanned five and allowed just a pair of Bruins on the bases to keep Madison Simon's fourth-inning RBI single the difference in the contest.

As UCLA threatened early with runners looking to score in the first two frames, Hulon buckled down to punch out three to make her presence known. Despite a Bruin reaching second in the sixth, Hulon responded by five of the next seven to keep them off the board.
Hulon and the defense held UCLA in check with three 1-2-3 frames, including in the seventh to secure the upset.
Totaling seven hits on the day, the Beaver bats caught fire in the fourth when they plated the decisive run on five hits – all consecutively – with just one out. Madison Simon pushed Kaylee Oh – pinch running for Abby Doerr – off a single up the middle for the 1-0 lead. OSU couldn't add an insurance run or two as the next at-bats were an infield fly and a swinging strikeout to leave the bases loaded.

The Beavers piled six of their seven hits off the Bruin starter, Taylor Tinsley, as she did not make it out of the fourth inning before being relieved.
Eliana Gottlieb led the OSU offense in hits, going a perfect 3-for-3, while Lici Campbell, Abby Doerr, Paige Doerr and Simon also added a hit apiece.
The afternoon marked Hulon's second consecutive Pac-12 start with at least five strikeouts after fanning nine in her last outing at Washington. She also has seven appearances with five or more strikeouts on the season.
Dating back to last season, the win marked the third win over an opponent ranked in the top-20 and second over a team in the top-12 at Kelly Field. In 2023, the Beavs defeated No. 20 Oregon (4-0) and No. 9 Washington (11-1 (5)) in front of the home fans.
Oregon State will keep the homestand going this upcoming week as they welcome Stanford to Kelly Field. Friday's first pitch against the Cardinal is slated for 4 p.m. and can be seen on the OSU Live Stream.
