Beavs Compete Against Top-Ranked Opponents in Acc/Pac-12 Invite
April 15, 2024 | Women's Rowing
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – In their second straight weekend of competition, Oregon State women's rowing faced highly-ranked opponents in Charlottesville. The two-day event, hosted by No. 11 Virginia, fielded the No. 17 Beavers alongside No. 8 Syracuse, No. 5 Yale, No. 4 California and 2023 National Champion No. 1 Stanford.
Following a race delay due to high winds, the third varsity eight kicked off an evening session for the Beavers. The 3v8+ of Emily Wood, Addy Dunlap, Jenny Doss, Margo Calub, Hannah Stively, Kinsey Olarrea, Caitlin Kirkpatrick, Ellie Roberti and Zoe Eberle came in second place behind Syracuse.
The second varsity four captained by sophomore coxswain Grace Sansoterra led the crew of Anna Bledsoe, Megan Lautner, Isabella Mitchell and Elke Thursten to a second place finish behind the No. 4 Golden Bears. The Beavs fought hard in the third 500 to gain and extend a three second lead over No. 8 Syracuse.
Freshman Reese Wyatt stroked the 1v4+ to a close third place finish behind California and Syracuse. Oregon State's lineup of Taylor Denger, Reese Wyatt, Harriet Williams, Zoe Bishop and Annelise Norkitis had dominant walk in the last 500 but fell just short, resulting in a 0.2 second margin behind the Orange.
Saturday competition concluded with third place finishes from both the first and second varsity eights. OSU's 2v8+ (Nicole Shultz, Charlotte Lightfoot, Becca Logan, Kate Worley, Tulla Angeley, Anneka Davys, Ashtyn Miller, Katie Judd and Sasha Delman) stroked by freshman Charlotte Lightfoot finished in a time of 6:35.4 while the 1v8+ (Charlotte Gregory, Giulia Clerici, Maeve Donnelly, Evan Park, Rhianna Loughnan, Lauren Garrett, Becky Falash, Torree Hawken and Alex Hutchinson) steered by senior coxswain Charlotte Gregory clocked in at 6:26.7.
In a tight turnaround the Beavers' 1v8+ lined up against No. 5 Yale Sunday morning. Oregon State finished second to the Bulldogs in the 1v8+, 2v8+ and 1v4+ categories.
Closing out the weekend, the 2v4+ finished third in a tight race with Virginia while freshman Maggie Waltz coxed 3v8+ to second place against the Cavaliers.
