
Beaver Notch Fourth-Straight Win at Saint Mary’s

MORAGA, Calif. – The Oregon State men's soccer team notched its fourth-straight victory, as the Beavers claimed a 2-0 win over Saint Mary's Wednesday afternoon in Moraga, Calif.
Arnau Farnos and Pere Belmonte scored the goals for the Beavers. Farnos' tally was his fifth of the season, while Belmonte recorded his second.
Fabian Straudi notched an assist on the game's opening goal, as he extended his streak to seven straight matches with a point – tying the Oregon State record. The junior now has nine assists on the year, tying him for fourth on the Beavers' single-season list.
As a team Oregon State out shot Saint Mary's 12-7. The Gaels did not record a shot on goal in the contest.
Oregon State pressed forward looking to open the scoring early in the match. A 22nd minute cross narrowly missed the foot of Sergi Solans, as the Beavers eyed the Gael net.
Farnos broke the ice in the 26th minute, as Straudi dribbled through a number of Saint Mary's defenders, before setting up the Spaniard for a finish from 11 yards out. Ellis Spikner nearly found his way to an open net 10 minutes later, but the Gael goalkeeper was able to do just enough to break up the attack 30 yards from his own net.
Oregon State headed to the break leading 1-0.
Belmonte doubled the Beaver advantage in the 57th minute, slotting one home off an assist from Spikner. Spikner had his own effort blocked in the 82nd minute, as he looked to extend the OSU advantage.
Gandhi Cruz recorded his second clean sheet of the year in net for Oregon State, as OSU claimed the two-goal victory.
The Beavers will be off until Oct. 18, when Gonzaga visits Lorenz Field.
