Beavers Fall on the Road to #8 Stanford
January 21, 2024 | Women's Basketball
STANFORD, Calif. – Oregon State battled in a tough environment before falling to no. 8 Stanford 65-56 on Sunday.
Â
Raegan Beers led OSU with 18 points and 10 rebounds, getting her 18 on 8-of-11 shooting from the floor. Timea Gardiner added eight points and pulled down seven rebounds.
Â
The first half was a classic Oregon State-Stanford battle. Defense, post play and execution were key with Stanford eking out a 28-22 lead after the opening 20 minutes. The Beavs shot 36 percent from the floor but held Stanford to 35 percent with the early difference coming on Stanford's nine offensive rebounds and five second chance points.
Â
Beers led the Beavs at the break with eight points on 4-of-5 shooting, but OSU struggled to get the ball to her consistently. Lily Hansford had the moment off the half, a four-point play where she drained a triple on the left wing to tie the game at 10 after the first quarter.
Â
OSU made an immediate run back into the game. Beers, von Oelhoffen and AJ Marotte combined for a 7-0 run to make it 29-28. Stanford countered with a run of its own however, and finished the third with a 50-43 advantage.
Â
The Beavers had chances in the final period, but extra opportunities for the home side hurt the comeback attempt as four turnovers and two offensive rebounds gave Stanford six extra chances. Gardiner scored six in the final quarter, giving her 16 fourth quarter points on the weekend.
Â
Up next, Oregon State returns home for another huge showdown with no. 3 Colorado. The Beavs and Buffs battle at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at beavertickets.com.
