Beavers Split on Final Day in Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE, La. – Oregon State wrapped up the LSU Invitational by splitting a pair of games to Nicholls and LSU on Sunday. The Beavs knocked off the Colonels by a 6-3 margin and fell to No. 25 LSU by a 3-0 line.
The Beavers and Colonels traded the game's first six runs through the contest's first three innings before OSU pulled away. Kaiea Higa burst onto the scene, driving in three runs – including her first collegiate home run and RBI – to pace the Beavers' offense. Frankie Hammoude launched her first homer of the season – scoring Grace Messmer – to crack the scoreboard in the first inning.
Four of Oregon State's six runs came with two outs.
Ellie Garcia (1-1) picked up her first win as an OSU student-athlete – she fanned a pair in 5.0 frames. Tarni Stepto struck out five over 2.0 innings to register her first save of 2023.
In the second game, the Beavers will held off the hit column until the sixth when dropped a leadoff single to left. Ultimately, OSU fell to the homestanding Tigers by a 3-0 margin. Sarah Haendiges struck out four but allowed seven hits in 4.1 frames tossed on the way to her first loss of the season. Stepto threw 1.2 innings' worth of relief work and fanned four.
Oregon State will be back in action this Thursday, February 16th, against Illinois State in the ASU Littlewood/GCU Classic in Tempe, Ariz. First pitch against the Redbirds is slated for 2:30 p.m. PT.
