Bay Area Battles Ahead for the Beavs
November 07, 2023 | Women's Volleyball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Following a weekend of hard-fought, five-set action, the Oregon State volleyball team will visit the Bay Area schools to start the final stretch of away games in 2023, visiting California and Stanford.
THE OPPOSITION
Oregon State will venture south to the Bay Area for rematches with California and fourth-ranked Stanford.
Last month, the Beavers fell at home to these foes: a straight-set affair to the then-No. 3 Cardinal and then the Golden Bears in a heartbreaking five-set battle.
BEAVERS BUILDING
Heading into the final weeks of the season, Oregon State has been building. The beginning of the Behonick era has seen:
• The first home sweep of the Arizona schools since 2017
• The first road sweep of the Washington schools since 2017
• The first top 25 road win since 2017
• The first time beating two ranked opponents since 2011
• The first win over a ranked Washington State since 2016
• Just the third win over Washington in Seattle since 2001
1,000 KILLS
In the third set of the Cal match, Peyton Suess recorded her 1,000th career kill. After amassing 869 at Wake Forest, she's collected 137 so far in her time in Corvallis. Her 21 in the last time out, a five-set stumble to Utah, was the most in her time as a Beaver.
Vernon is creeping closer and closer to the 1,000-kill threshold. The New Yorker is sitting at 981 kills and eclipsed the 800-kill mark at the beginning of October. With just those 19 kills, she can be the 17th student-athlete to accomplish the feat at Oregon State.
MARVELOUS MYCHAEL
In the Pac-12, Vernon sits in the top-14 in six statistical categories, including four inside the top-eight and two inside the top-six.
• 344 kills (5th)
• 3.55 k/s (8th)
• 394.0 points (6th)
• 4.0 pts/s (7th)
• 245 digs (12th)
• 2.53 d/s (14th)
BURNS SO GOOD
Helping the Beaver offense in big ways recently is newcomer Amanda Burns. The LMU transfer has made a mark in the Pac-12 with 451 assists - good enough for 12th in the league. In the last eight matches, she's averaged 24.7 assists/match with a high of 36 set back in the five-set affair to Cal back on Oct. 22.
OH, WE DIG THAT
White's 361 digs lead the Beavs and is good for second in the league. She - an eastern Washington native - recorded 29 digs - a new career-high - in the upset of Washington State. She's totaled 20 or more digs in six of the last eight times out, including a combined 43 in the two wins over No. 19 ASU and Arizona and 44 in last weekend's action against Colorado and Utah.
