Women’s Rowing Concludes First Event Of 2023-24

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State women's rowing team completed its first event of 2023-24 season, and took away a handful of top finishes at the Head of the Spokane on Saturday. Head of the Spokane is a 5000m head race contested on the Spokane River.

In flight one Oregon State's 1V8+ took second, tallying a time of 0:16:53, just behind Gonzaga's 0:16:39. OSU's 2V8+ was close behind, taking fourth with a time of 0:17:18, just trailing Gonzaga's 2V8+, which finished at 0:17:03.

The Beavers' closed out flight one with a win in the 1v4+ in the novice eights and varsity 4+ event, with a time of 0:19:35 besting Gonzaga's 1N8+ by 23 seconds.
In flight two the Beavers' pair of Maeve Donnelly and Evan Park took first with a time of 0:19:45, just beating out Gonzaga's B squad, which finished at 0:19:47.

Oregon State also claimed two of the top four spots in the collegiate fours. OSU's 1V4+ squad took second, finishing at 0:18:58, just one second off Gonzaga's 1V4+ time of 0:18:57. The Beavers' 2V4+ team finished in fourth, just out of third, behind Washington State's 3V4+ time of 0:19:21.

Head of the Spokane is the first of three events for the Beavers in the fall. OSU heads to Gold River, Calif., for the Head of the American on Oct. 28. Oregon State then concludes its early-season slate with the Orange and Black Regatta on the Willamette River in Corvallis. That is slated to take place Nov. 18.
