Beavers Run Rule Two on First Day of Amy S. Harrison Classic

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – No. 25 Oregon State (14-3) collected two wins Friday on day one of the Amy S. Harrison Classic. The Beavers defeated Sacred Heart 8-0 (6) before turning around to beat co-host UC Riverside 9-1 (6), extending their winning streak to 11.
Oregon State's pitching staff of Mariah Mazon and Tarni Stepto combined to give up just one run on five hits over the two games. Stepto threw a one-hit, complete-game shutout in OSU's victory over Sacred Heart.
In the first game of the day, Stepto collected her fifth win of the season in the circle, going the complete six frames and surrendering no runs and one hit with one walk and 10 strikeouts.
Eight Beavers registered a hit, led by freshman Kiki Escobar's 3-for-4 performance with an RBI. Charity Sevaaetasi brought in a team-best three RBIs after blasing a three-run shot in the sixth. Six Beavers brought in at least one run, including three across in the fourth and sixth innings.
Three Beavers went yard vs. Sacred Heart, with Sevaaetasi's three-run homer while junior Frankie Hammoude and freshman Eliana Gottlieb each hitting shots.
Oregon State turned around to face the Highlanders after run-ruling Sacred Heart and picked up right where it left off. Kaylah Nelson hit a solo shot in the second inning to start the scoring before three Beavers were able to race home in the third frame.
Eight Beavers record a hit in the contest while Mazon and Nelson each had three RBIs to pace the squad.
Mazon went the distance for her sixth win this season, striking out eight and surrendering four hits to the 22 batters she faced.
On the season, OSU is outscoring opponents 118-24 and have hit 21 home runs on the year.
Oregon State returns to the Amy S. Classic on Saturday to face CSUN and co-host California Baptist at 10:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. PT, respectively.
