August 30, 2019 | Men's Soccer
Beavers return to Lorenz Field on Sunday to host Colgate at 5:30 p.m.
CORVALLIS – Junior Joel Walker netted the first goal for the Beavers this season, but Oregon State men's soccer dropped its season-opener to Coastal Carolina by a score of 2-1 at Paul Lorenz Field.
The Beavers held a 14-13 advantage in shots during the match.
Oregon State fired the first shot on goal during the sixth minute of play when sophomore Steffan Yeates punched one at the goal that the Chanticleer's keeper was able to get his hands on it. CCU gave sophomore keeper Adrian Fernandez his first action minutes later after ripping a shot that Fernandez saved.
Eric Diaz, Armaud Denial and Adrian Crespo each recorded their own shots before Walker slid his goal in from the right-side of the 18-yard box off a pass from Crespo.
Oregon State tallied seven shots in the first half, and headed to the break leading by a goal.
OSU started the second half much like the first with Yeates recording a shot that went high.
Coastal Carolina leveled the score in the 53rd minute of play. Diaz and Javier Armas took back-to-back shots trying to give the Beavers the edge back were saved and blocked, respectively.
CCU netted the team's second goal in the 68th minute. The Beavers continued to press for a goal in the closing minutes, including sophomore Sofiane Djeffal firing a free kick off at 89:54 that was saved my Coastal Carolina's keeper.
The Beavers will be back at home on Sunday evening, when they host Colgate at 5:30 p.m. on the Pac-12 Networks.
