Beavers Open Season at Las Vegas Invitational

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State men's rowing team begins their spring season this Saturday and Sunday at the 3rd Annual Lake Las Vegas Collegiate Invitational held at Lake Las Vegas in Henderson, Nev.
"The weather looks to be pretty windy on Saturday, which will make for challenging conditions." said head coach Gabe Winkler. "This is a great early season race against four top 25 teams."
Five men's teams were invited to this year's iteration of the invitational, all of which are currently ranked in the USRowing Coache's Poll; No. 2 Washington, No. 4 UC-Berkeley, No. 12 Cornell, No. 18 Oregon State, No. 25 Marist.
The Beavers Varsity 8+ and JV 8+ will first row against Cal and Marist on Saturday morning at 8:40 and 9:40 a.m., respectively. Following a break, OSU will resume competition against Washington and Marist at Noon and 12:40 p.m.
On Sunday, Oregon State finishes the weekend with the varsity and junior varsity boats rowing against Cornell and Marist at 9 and 9:20 a.m.
"This has become a premier event," said Winkler. "To have this level of competition this early will test our skills and training against the best in the country."
The Beavers' varsity boat, coxed by Ben Garrison, is manned by Hunter Smith, Alex Carlton, Roman Pjajka, Jacob Randall, Nils Patrick, Jacoby Wilson, Emerson Chase, and Nick Taylor.
The junior varsity boat, coxed by Nick West, is powered by Jacob Hart, C.J. Wallace, Zach Niedermeyer, Camron Gharib, Tyler Gray, Samuel Foltz, Austin DeMartine, and Trygve Nordby.
