Beavers Fall to Texas Tech in CSUN Tournament Finale

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – The No. RV Oregon State University softball team dropped its final game of the CSUN Tournament hosted by California State University Northridge at Matador Diamond on Sunday morning.
The Beavers lost 4-1 to No. RV Texas Tech (14-8) after beating the Red Raiders on Saturday.
Oregon State falls to 17-9 overall on the season.
A fast start from Texas Tech put the Beavers behind 3-0 after the first inning.
The Beavers had a great scoring opportunity in the following inning with the bases loaded and just one out. Alysha Everett, Missy Nunes and Camryn Ybarra reached on a singles, but the Kassidy Scott and the Red Raiders' defense forced Kayleen Shafer into a double play ending the inning.
Oregon State managed its only run in the third inning.
Michelle Sass started the inning off with a leadoff single, and a subsequent stolen base in the next at bat. Shelby Weeks stepped into the batter's box taking advantage of the scoring opportunity with an RBI single to left field, her 12th of the season. The Beavers trailed 3-1.
Oregon State left runners on the bags in the fourth inning after a single from Ybarra and a defensive error. Texas Tech struck again in the fifth inning turning a single and stolen base into an RBI.
The Beavers left one runner stranded in the sixth, and in the seventh three consecutive groundouts dashed any hopes of a comeback finalizing the score, 4-1.
Mariah Mazon pitched a complete game in the loss, giving up seven hits while striking out three. Ybarra led the way offensively with two hits.
Oregon State finished the CSUN Tournament 4-1, and prepares to head into a tough conference stretch.

Oregon State hosts its Pacific-12 Conference and home opener against California on March 16 at 3 p.m. for game one of a three-game series.
