Beavers Finish Split Action Weekend Strong
December 03, 2018 | Women's Swimming
Oregon State sets a flurry of season and career best times on both coasts.
FEDERAL WAY, Wash / GREENSBORO, NC. – Oregon State Swim set multiple personal bests and season bests on both side of the country as they finished up a weekend of split action in Federal Way, Washington at the Husky Invite and in Greensboro, North Carolina at Winter Nationals.
Felicia Anderson, Arianna Letrari, and Cali Rowland finished up their time on the east coast with short course time trials; each setting a season best after the long weekend of events.
"(The group at Winter Nationals) performed very well this morning, the time trial was a different environment than they are used to," said Beaver head coach Jennifer Buffin. "Everyone competed their primary races in just over an hour."
Anderson competed in the 100 back setting a new personal best with a time of 54.14 as well as the 200 back where she had a season best time of 1:58.44 and the 50 free. Ariana Letrari finished the 100 and 200 fly with season bests in both events finishing at 54.34 and 2:00.16 respectively. Rowland finished off the time trials with a season best 2:18.05 in the 200 breast, good for a season best time. She also completed the 100 breast with a time of 1:03.95.
"They really stepped up and took each race individually," Buffin said. "We were all pleased with the week of competition but we're ready to refocus on training after finals week."
Back on the west coast at the Husky Invite the Beavers finished the meet in third place with 738 total points
Brooke Hofmann finished the meet strong with a career best 2:03.8 in the preliminaries of the 200 back, placing her in 5th place.
In the 100 free the Beavers had a trio of Beavers near the top of the results board. Amanda Hoejberg finished inside the top eight for the event with a personal best time of 52.23 while Lindsay Swail and Callan Jackman placed just outside the top eight with a 52.34 (season best for Swail) and 52.38 respectively.
Rachel Pride and Jacquie Price each competed well in the 200 of their respective strokes to finish out the weekend. Pride finished with a personal best 2:18.48 in the 200 breast, while Price finished the 200 fly with a season best time of 2:01.72.
The Beaver 400 free relay team took home first place with a time of 3:27.29. The team was led off by Jackman followed by a trio of freshmen in Erin Harvey, Swail, and Hoejberg.
Oregon State finished up the meet with a top 10 performance in the prelims of the 1650 free by Chloe Bowman who finished with a final time of 17:42.76.
"Being on two sides of the country it was great to see how the two groups supported each other, this is a direct reflection of not just the physical training but the focus on culture and values they have as a team," Buffin said. "There were good performances from both sides, each group learned from their experiences and that will be what we focus on this winter preparing for Pac-12's."
The Beavers are back to the pool to prepare for their next meet at the end of the month where they will travel to San Diego State University on December 31st.
