Rain Delays Don't Bode Well for Beavs
April 08, 2017 | Softball
SEATTLE – After having the first game of the series postponed yesterday against No. 10 Washington, the Oregon State softball team resumed play today in the top of the third inning and the score tied 2-2. The Beavers finished the last five frames Saturday and fell, 4-3 against the Huskies.
Â
During the first inning – yesterday – the Beavers got on the board after it loaded the bases to start the game. Sammi Noland knocked a two-RBI single down the right-field line to score two and give the Beavers the lead.
Â
The Huskies responded with runs in the first and second innings to tie the game up 2-2. The game was paused in the bottom of the second with one out due to heavy rain before the field was covered again at the end of the inning. Officials then decided to postpone the game until Saturday at 12:30 pm.
Â
Following the postponement, the Beavers went down in order in the third frame and looked to put the same effect on the Huskies. UW had two-outs, but an infield single allowed an unearned run to score and the Huskies to take the lead.
Â
The Beavers put six runners on base the fifth and sixth innings - including loading them in the sixth - but could not get any across the plate. Sammi Noland looked to bring the Beavs back in the top of the seventh, crushing a two-out solo homer to cut the deficit to one, but that's all they would get.
Â
Oregon State will continue the series this afternoon with the second game starting at 3:00 p.m. broadcasted on Pac-12 Network.
