Oregon State Advances to Final 'C'
April 22, 2017 | Women's Rowing
CLEMSON, S.C. – The Oregon State women's rowing team competed in six races on the first day of racing at the Clemson Invitational with each boat earning a spot to compete tomorrow in Final 'C'.
"We had a mixed bag of racing today," interim head coach Allison Foster said. "A good showing from our Varsity 8 which is the highlight boat of the day. They put together the best two races of our season in one day. A true testament to their abilities will be how they rally tomorrow in the 'C' final."
The Beavers' Varsity 8, consisting of Alina Hagstrom, Eliza Adams, Paige Phillips, Bayly Camp, Hannah Smith, Olivia Ashby, Mimi Ballinger, and Tess O'Leary and coxed by Bailey Daniels, started the morning off covering the 2,000-meter course, on Lake Hartwell in 6-minutes, 39.676-seconds. OSU edged out Pennsylvania (6:40.106) by barely a full second and Cornell (6:46.174) by more than six seconds.
The Varsity 4+ had a tough morning and came back in the afternoon with a lineup change and fresh attitudes to close the margin a bit, but still have room to grow. The Second Varsity 8 also had a tough day, but they are optimistic for tomorrow's 'C' final.
The afternoon was highlighted by the V8 which crossed the line two seconds after Gonzaga (6:34.828), and 10-seconds ahead of Navy (6:46.713). The Orange and Black clocked a final time of 6:36.434 improving on their morning performance time.
The Beavers return to the water tomorrow, for day two of the Clemson Invitational. Due to anticipation of inclement weather, racing is now projected to start at 7:30 a.m. ET. Follow tomorrow's finals action here.
