April 14, 2017 | Softball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State softball team trailed by seven runs midway through the fourth inning, but mounted a comeback that fell short against No. 8/9 UCLA. The Beavers fell 7-5, Friday afternoon after scoring five unanswered runs and leaving the bases loaded in the final two frames.Â
UCLA jumped out to a quick lead in the first inning, scoring two runs in its first trips to the plate. The Bruins add to their lead in the fourth inning with some help from a pair of home runs to hold a commanding 7-0 advantage.
Â
The Beavers would not give up as Alysha Everett sent a solo homer to right field in the home half of the fourth to put OSU on the board.
Â
In the fifth, Everett would continue producing runs after a single through the left side scored Oregon State's second run of the game.
Â
Oregon State would continue to build momentum into the sixth inning after Kayleen Shafer knocked a single to right field to score Sammi Noland. Jessica Garcia followed with an infield single to score another run and put the score at 7-4.
Â
The Bruins would make a pitching before Everett would record her third RBI of the game after taking a walk with the bases loaded to score a run and trail by just two.
Â
Oregon State had a huge opportunity in the seventh, after loading the bases with the first three batters, but the Beavs could not come through and left the bases juiced.
Â
Alysha Everett and Sammi Noland led the Beavers from the dish recording two hits apiece, while Everett added to her RBI total with three more. The junior now has 19 RBIs in her last seven games, including a run batted in in the last four straight.
Â
Nerissa Eason was tagged with the loss after starting the game and throwing three innings before Meehra Nelson came in relief. The pair combined for two strikeouts and six earned runs.
