Orange Team Edges Black Team at Annual Orange & Black Regatta
November 18, 2017 | Men's Rowing, Women's Rowing
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State rowing programs concluded the fall schedule Saturday morning with the annual Orange and Black Regatta on the Willamette River at the OSU Boathouse.
Hundreds of people lined the banks of the Willamette on a foggy Saturday morning in Corvallis.
"This started nine years ago as an intrasquad practice and now we have a few hundred people on the banks of the Willamette [River]," OSU men's rowing head coach Gabe Winkler said. "It came down to the final alumni race and the Orange team won."
The Beavers divided up into two different teams – orange and black – with crews from the orange team claiming victory over the orange team.
"Today was a really fun day--good racing, meeting new parents of this year's walk-ons, catching up with the alumni, enjoying some delicious food, and honoring the contributions from the Beaver Rowing Club," began OSU women's rowing head coach Kate Maxim. "This brought the whole program and the greater network that supports the program closer together. This team is very fortunate to have an army of alumni, administration, family and friends behind them and pushing them to take full advantage of this opportunity to row for OSU. We can't wait to get everyone together again for the Spring Kick Off event in February!"
The men's and women's programs are now idle until the spring. The women's rowing team opens up the season on Saturday, March 17 when they take on UCLA in Marina Del Rey, Calif. The men's team will begin the spring season at the Vegas Invite in Las Vegas on Saturday, March 3.
