How "Sweet 16" It Is!
March 21, 2016 | Women's Basketball
Corvallis, Ore -- “How Sweet `16' it is!” Pac-12 Player of the Year Jamie Weisner scored 23 points, Deven Hunter tallied 11 and Ruth Hamblin corralled 16 rebounds as the No. 2 seed Oregon State women's basketball team rolled over No. 10 seed St. Bonaventure 69-40 in front of an energized crowd of 6,074 at Gill Coliseum in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
The win catapults the Beavers into the Regional Semifinals and the program's second Sweet 16 appearance where they will face the No. 6 DePaul Blue Demons, and upset winner Sunday over Louisville, Saturday in Dallas, Texas.
For the first time in history the Beavers (30-4) have won two NCAA Tournament games in the same season and they did it behind their usual stellar defense as they held the Bonnies (24-8) to 25.4 percent on 14 of 55 from the field for the game, including a paltry 18.5 percent in the second half on 5 of 27. Thirty-one of OSU's opponents this season have failed to hit 40 percent from the field for the game.
OSU pushed what was a hard-fought 10-point lead at halftime at 31-21 into a 52-25 lead after the third quarter thanks to a 21-4 advantage in the period and it was never threatened the rest of the game. The Beavers built as much as a 31-point lead when Kolbie Orum made a layup at the 2:08 mark of the final quarter.

Oregon State moves to 30-4 on the season, as it continues to improve on the highest win total in program history. The game also marked the final home game for Oregon State seniors Jamie Weisner, Ruth Hamblin, Deven Hunter, Samantha Siegner, Jen'Von'Ta Hill.
Game time for the Oregon State-DePaul (26-8), the first matchup ever for the two programs, will be announced in the near future.
