Oregon State Rows to Third
November 06, 2016 | Men's Rowing
SEATTLE, Wash. – The Oregon State Varsity 8 recorded a third-place finish in the Men's Collegiate Open 8 and the Beavers' Junior Varsity 8 outraced Stanford to earn a silver finish at the Head of the Lake Regatta Sunday morning.
OSU's V8+, started the morning off covering the three-mile course with a time of 16-minutes, 41.568-seconds to grab third behind Stanford (16:11.671) and Washington (16:12.368).
"The Varsity crew was pleased with their piece and tightened up the margins against our Pac-12 rivals," head coach Gabe Winkler said. "It gives us something to work with during our winter training. Hats off to Stanford for getting the win."
The Beavers' JV8 out rowed the Stanford crew (17:16.807) by nearly 10-seconds to take a second place finish, powering through the course in a time of 17:06.807. OSU's Third Varsity 8, raced to a time of 17:42.563 to put cross the finish third behind two strong Washington boats.
Oregon State finished the regatta by splitting into three Varsity 4+ boats. The Beavers' 4V+ 'A' finished behind four Washington boats and less than 5-seconds shy of taking fourth place, with a time of 18:46.976. OSU's 4V+ 'B' finished in seventh posting a time of 19:22.277. The 4V+ 'C' covered the course in 19:47.261 putting it in eighth place.
"The JV getting second place, finishing 10-seconds ahead of Stanford is just a fantastic outcome for our guys. Then the guys had roughly 20 minutes to get ready for the 'fours' race and I'm really happy with our top boat finishing in front of an excellent Washington crew."
The Beavers conclude their fall schedule next Saturday, Nov. 12 at the Orange and Black Regatta.
