Bresser, Palmer top ranked foes

The meet honored Wells, a former OSU head coach and longtime Michigan assistant who died earlier this year.
Bonus points and an overtime win were the key for the Wolverines (5-1). They had a pin, three major decisions and the overtime win in their seven victories, a nine-point swing in their favor the unranked Beavers (3-4) could not overcome.
Sophomore Ronnie Bresser (125), redshirt junior Joey Palmer (133) and senior Seth Thomas (165) won their weight classes for the Beavers. Bresser, ranked No. 6 by InterMat, defeated No. 19 Conor Youtsey 3-1; Palmer then trounced No. 16 Rosario Bruner 12-6 to give the Beavers an early 6-0 lead.
However, redshirt sophomore Jack Hathaway lost in overtime at 141 and the Wolverines took control with a major decision and a pin in the next two bouts. Thomas momentarily righted the ship with a 7-4 decision over Garrett Sutton that drew the Beavers with 13-9, but the Wolverines won the final four weight classes to close it out.
Michigan heavyweight Adam Coon (4), the 2015 NCAA runner-up, defeated OSU's Amarveer Dhesi (10) 5-1 in the marquee match of the meet. Dhesi has lost three matches in a row after opening the season with 14 consecutive wins.
The Beavers conclude the road trip against No. 16 Central Michigan at 11 a.m. Saturday in Mt. Pleasant. Their next home dual is Jan. 16 against Wyoming, starting at noon; it will be televised by Pac-12 Networks.
