Dhesi routs Hall in rematch
January 30, 2016 | Wrestling
Tempe, Ariz. – Oregon State redshirt sophomore Amarveer Dhesi routed Arizona State's Tanner Hall 12-4 in a matchup of ranked heavyweights on Friday night but the Beavers fell 24-12 to the Sun Devils in their Pacific-12 Conference opener.
The 12th-ranked Hall had edged Dhesi 6-5 at the Midlands Championships on Dec. 29, ending his 14-match winning streak. But the 10th-ranked Dhesi left no doubt in the rematch as he dominated the entire match and earned bonus points with a major decision to stretch his current streak to three matches in a row.
Senior 165-pounder Seth Thomas and sophomore 125-pounder Ronnie Bresser were the other winners for the Beavers (5-5, 0-1 Pac-12). They stretched their personal winning streaks to four consecutive matches.
The Beavers conclude the weekend by hosting unranked Northern Colorado at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Gill Coliseum. They defeated the Bears 40-6 in Greeley last season and lead the all-time series 19-7.
